Riserva Naturale di Monte Rufeno

<< BACK

The territory of 3000 hectares is mainly covered by forests and cultivations. This corner of paradise houses an infinity of vegetal species, flowers of thousands of colours design the fields and the undergrowth, evergreen and caducous forest trees. The morphological aspect of this area is typical of the Tuscia, with a big drop of more than 500 m between the peak of Mount Rufeno and the the lower hills with the river Paglia. In the area live: fallow-deer, wild boar, badger, porcuspine, fox and marten, horned owl, sparrow owl, jay and woodpecker. On its south-western borders, where the river Paglia runs, birds of all kinds find shelter. Some few country cottages offer beds for about 20 persons in total and there is a "trattoria" where you may eat typical forest products. Excursions and trekking for all ages with differentiated routes and distances. (Informations and assistance at the Visitors' Centre of the reserve, Acquapendente, Tel. 0763/733642).
