The
Necropoli Etrusca del Cerro, situated in a wide archeological
area west of the town, is characterized by the layouts of
three ancient roads which led from Nepi to Sutri, to the Lage
di Vico and to the actual towns of Ronciglione and Caprarola.
The tombs date back to the period between the 8th and the
5th century BC. Their remains are exhibited in the Museo
Civico in the Palazzo Comunale. On request, they arrange
for visits to the necropolises, to the Catacombe di S.
Savinilla (Chiesa di S. Tolomeo) of the republican and
imperial Roman period and to the Castello Borgia, of
a 15th century look and rebuilt by the Borgia family on the
remains of a previous feudal castle. The Duomo (Cathedral)
had been constructed on a pagan temple, rebuilt in the 12th
century and later remade in 1752 and in 1831 after the French
troups had set fire to it. In the crypt has been incorporated
the original pagan altar. Remarkable, the Bernini school sarcophagus
of S. Romano and a 15th century triptych.
