<< BACK

Housed in the seat of the Sodalizio dei "Facchini di S. Rosa" (the porters of …) in Via S. Pellegrino, 60, it exhibits sketches, relics, posters, documents, photographs and literature concerning the Trasporto della Macchina di S. Rosa (transport of the …), which is held every year on Sept. 3rd, while the day before takes place the Corteo Storico e Processione di S. Rosa (historical cortege and procession of…), the participants of the latter wearing precious historical costumes from the 13th to the 18th century. The transport of the Macchina di S. Rosa is the most important folcloristic manifestation of the Viterbese Tuscia. The "Macchina", a sort of tower, is 30 metres high and weighs about 5 tons. About 100 "facchini" (porters) bear it on their shoulders through the darkened streets of the town. During the "walk" of approx. 1 km they make five times a 10-minute-stop in significant sites of the town on their journey between the Porta Romana and the sanctuary of St. Rose.
