The
museum is housed in the former convent contiguous to the Chiesa
di S. Maria della Verità. In the cloister there are many sarcophagi,
funerary cippi and fragments of tombstones. On the ground
level, two rooms exhibit various Etruscan and Roman archeological
remains. On the first floor, there is a picture-gallery with
famous works, such as "La Pietà" and "La Flagellazione" by
Sebastiano del Piombo (1485-1547), "Presepe e Madonna col
Bambino" by Antonio del Massaro (1478-1509) and "Incredulità
di S. Tommaso" by Salvator Rosa (1615-1673); frescoes of the
14th and
15th century coming from Viterbese churches and palaces, sculptures,
prints of the models of the Macchina di S. Rosa (see Museo
della Macchina di S. Rosa) and other items.
