The lake is a minor crater
of the Sabatini Mountains, of circular shape with a diameter
of 600 m only, 2 km of circumference and a surface of approximately
30 ha. It is recalled for the historic meeting in 1155 between
Hadrian IV and Frederick Barbarossa, who is said to have refused
to hold the stirrup of the pope's horse.
