Somebody thinks that this is
the "lacus Stationensis" described by Seneca and Plinius.
It is located near the lake Bolsena at 400 m height, with
a 48 ha surface and a depth of around 30 m. The ancient town
of Statonia is said to have risen on its shores: underwater
prospections have been able to delimit two human palafitte
settlements. It is part of the Riserva Naturale Regionale
Selva del Lamone. The objects found in the settlements are
exhibited in the Museo della Preistoria della Tuscia in Valentano.
