In an unguarded, freely accessible
area along the road leading to the Lake of Bolsena , on the
side of a long tufaceous slope with wide terraces, there is
the Necropoli Etrusca Le Pianezze with its tombs of
the 7th - 6th century BC, realized with a dromos digged into
the tuff, a vestibule with central ridgepole and a sloping
roof. Particularly interesting, the Red tomb.
The Museo
Civico, hosted in the Palazzo del Podestà, has two sections:
Etruscan and Medieval. The first exhibits objects of the necropolises
of Vigna la Piazza and Pianezze, the second reconstructs with
the help of graphics and panels the more recent history of
Grotte di Castro and its popular traditions. << UP
The Museo
della Basilica di Maria SS. del Suffragio occupies a series
of small rooms on different levels in the caves of the basilica
and exhibits vestments and vessels, paintings and sculptures
of the basilica and interesting Etruscan remains of the surrounding
area. << UP
