In 1513, Cardinal Alessandro
Farnese, the future Paul III, gave orders to construct on
top of a pre-existent castle the Palazzo Farnese, planned
by Antonio da Sangallo the Younger, in occasion of the marriage
between his son, Pierluigi Farnese, the future Duke of Castro,
and Girolama Orsini. In the recently renovated large reception
rooms you can admire precious wooden ceilings with traces
of decorations. From the windows there is a magnificent view
on the Lago di Bolsena.
The Palazzo Farnese houses
the Museo Civico with a collection of ancient Renaissance
pottery, books from the archives of the town of Gradoli and
a section dedicated to Renaissance costumes.
