The Necropoli Etrusca di
Pian del Vescovo is an unguarded, freely accessible area
at approx. 2 km from Blera, after having passed the ancient
Etruscan-Roman bridge , along the valley of the Biedano torrent.
The more ancient tombs, placed on the plateau (that of the
Sphynx being the most remarkable), date back to the 7th cent.
BC, while the more recent ones have been built along the rock
at different heights.
The Necropoli Etrusca La
Casetta-Il Terrone too, is an unguarded, freely accessible
area. It surrounds the village of Blera like a ring along
the northern slope of the Rio Canale valley. Driving downhill
towards the sewer plant, there is a parking lot. Among the
most remarkable tombs, there is an enormous tufaceous tumulus
and two tombs with traces of decorations. The area had been
used as a necropolis without any interruption from the Oriental
until the Roman period.
